I was deeply distressed to learn of the untimely death of a well-known historian and political scientist James Mace.

I convey my heartfelt condolences to his near and dear as well as colleagues on this irreparable loss and share your pain and sorrow.

The American James Mace was a great friend of Ukraine. He devoted all his lifetime to researching Ukrainian history. Our state highly appreciates his self-denying academic and public activities aimed at spreading worldwide the truth about the 1932-1933 manmade famine.

The memory of James Mace will last forever and ever in our hearts.

Dear Mrs. Natalia,

I am deeply grieved to offer my condolences on the death of your husband, a United States citizen, a researcher of Ukrainian history, an academic and journalist. James Mace’s life was full of self-denying efforts to do historical research and promote independent Ukrainian journalism, as well as of great respect for, deference to, and true love of all the people who surrounded him.

May the blessed memory of James Mace last forever in he hearts of those who knew him as a sensitive and kindhearted Man who contributed to the revival of the sense of Ukrainian national identity.

I was deeply distressed and grieved to hear this tragic news: the death of an outstanding Ukrainian national figure, Professor James Mace.

It is impossible to measure the pain and the impact of this loss on our state. Ukraine had found in the person of James Mace not only a prominent researcher of our own history but also a loyal son who felt the sufferings of Ukrainians all through his heart and became part of the Ukrainian nation.

We, Ukrainian diplomats, are bowing our heads to the memory of a Man who made an invaluable contribution to the worldwide proliferation of truth about the tragic manmade famine in Ukraine. We are still to assess properly and fairly the colossal mission of James Mace who, like a messenger of divine justice, tried to rouse the world as well as our nation. From now on, the name of James Mace will be inscribed forever on the tablets of Ukrainian memory and history.

I knew very well and loved this man. Please accept my sincere condolences on this irreparable loss. I will also appreciate it if you convey my words of sympathy and support to Mrs. Natalia.

I was deeply distressed to learn of the untimely death of James Mace, a person of high qualities and a top-class researcher.

He will be duly remembered not only in Ukraine but also by all those who take interest in this country. As it is clear from his Day chronicles and his books, he was a subtle connoisseur of Ukraine — he could understand this country with his mind and heart at the same time.

I convey my sincere condolences to his numerous kith and kin.
