Sept. 18 1640: The catechism of the “Orthodox confession of the faith” is adopted at a church council in Kyiv.

1996: The Ministry of External Economic Contacts and Trade adopts barcode procedures for products manufactured in Ukraine.

Sept. 19 1941: The Supreme Headquarters of the Commander in Chief of the Soviet Armies orders Soviet troops to retreat from Kyiv after 72 days of defensive battles.

1991: In Kyiv the activities of Kyiv-Mohyla National Academy are renewed.

Sept. 20 1919: The army of the Ukrainian National Republic and rebel units led by Nestor Makhno sign an agreement on joint combat operations against Denikin’s forces.

1975: Ukraine’s largest oil tanker Kuban is launched at the Kerch Shipyard.

Sept. 21 1841: Kyiv University establishes the Faculty of Medicine, known today as O. Bohomolets Ukrainian State Medical University.

1993: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine accepts Prime Minister Leonid Kuchma’s resignation.

Sept. 22 1943: The Donbas offensive ends when Soviet armies of the South-Western and Southern fronts liberate this territory from the Nazis.

1993: Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice registers the All-Ukraine Association of Entrepreneurs (VOP).

Sept. 23 1919: A joint conference of the Directory and the governments of the Ukrainian National Republic and the Western Ukrainian National Republic resolves to launch military actions against Denikin’s armies.

1989: The Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian Language Society publishes the first issue of Slovo.

Sept. 24 1993: The agreement on the creation of the Economic Alliance of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is signed in Moscow. Ukraine declares it is prepared to cooperate with the CIS as an associate member.

1997: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passes the bill “On the Elections of People’s Deputies,” based on a mixed electoral system.
