Dec. 11 1991: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine resolves to establish diplomatic relations with the countries that were once part of the former USSR.

2004: The Ukraine Channel broadcasts a telethon featuring presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych and his political followers.

Dec. 12 1818: The Institute for Girls of Noble Birth opens in Poltava.

1988: The AN-225 (Mria) plane performs a test flight in Kyiv.

Dec. 13 1941: In Kyiv the Nazis arrest Ukrainian intellectuals who are active members of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN).

2004: Experts at the Rudolfinerhaus Clinic in Austria announce their final conclusion: an attempt was made to poison Ukrainian presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko.

Dec. 14 1918: Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky of Ukraine abdicates in favor of the Directory.

2004: The “Friendship Train” sets off from Kyiv to the eastern, southern, and northern regions of Ukraine to disseminate the truth about what happened on the Maidan.

Dec. 15 1932. The CC CP(B)U adopts a resolution banning the delivery and sale of manufactured goods in 82 raions that failed to meet the grain delivery quotas.

2004: In view of the stabilization of the credit and foreign exchange market, the National Bank of Ukraine adopts a resolution on the free purchase and sale of US dollars.

Dec. 16 1917: The Council of People’s Commissars adopts the “Manifesto to the Ukrainian People with Ultimatums to the Ukrainian Rada,” warning that unless these demands are met, Russia will declare war on Ukraine within 48 hours.

2004: The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopts a statement emphasizing that those who are responsible for falsifying the presidential elections in Ukraine must be brought to justice.

Dec. 17 1897: The first locomotive is built at the steam locomotive factory in Kharkiv.

2004: A roundtable in Kyiv notes that the Orange Revolution created an information revolution in the Ukrainian media.
