Oct. 28 2001: President Leonid Kuchma of Ukraine meets his counterpart Boris Trajkovski of Macedonia in the Crimea, where both leaders agree to renew military and technological cooperation.

2004: On the 60th anniversary of Ukraine’s liberation from the Nazis, a military parade and veterans’ parade take place in Kyiv.

Oct 29. 1800: The first blast furnace is launched at the Luhansk Steelworks.

2001: Prime Minister Anatolii Kinakh of Ukraine visits the US to discuss Ukrainian-American strategic cooperation.

Oct. 30 1708: Peter I of Russia issues a decree to the Zaporozhian Cossacks, in which he promises not to carry out any acts of oppression and invites the Cossack officers to Hlukhiv to elect the Ukrainian hetman.

2001: Ukraine’s last ICBM silo is dismantled. Oct. 31 1995: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passes a bill on accession to the Statute of the Council of Europe.

1999: During the presidential elections in Ukraine, none of the candidates obtain the required number of votes. Leonid Kuchma and Petro Symonenko take part in the second round of elections.

Nov. 1 1966: Production of the world’s largest aircraft, Antei, is launched in Ukraine.

1991: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopts the Declaration of Rights of Nationalities.

Nov. 2 1941: The radio station Soviet Ukraine starts broadcasting from Moscow.

1973: The first section of the “3600” sheet rolling mill goes into production at the Azovstal Steelworks.

Nov. 3 1918: The popular assembly of Bukovyna announces the reunification of Northern Bukovyna and Ukraine.

1943: The 1st Ukrainian Front launches an offensive to liberate Kyiv from the Germans, creating a strategic bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnipro River.
