1500 New Bureaucrats

The Ukrainian government extended the personnel limit of ministries, other central executive bodies, and their subordinate regional bodies of government by 1452 persons. The personnel limit was among others extended for the Treasury by 1372, which will now employ 13,906 functionaries, Interfax-Ukraine reports. The Foreign Ministry and the Health Ministry staff has increased by 12 with the total of 765 and 260 employees respectively. The Ministry of the Economy staff has been augmented by seven persons with the total of 1300, while the staff of the regional bodies subordinated to it is 1189. The Fuel and Energy Ministry staff has been increased temporarily to January 1, 2002 by forty and currently employs 600 persons.

Thus, the staff limit for ministries and other central executive bodies and their subordinate regional institutions as of today is 187,119, which means almost a third of staff of these government bodies have been replenished after 19,000 (10%) workers were laid off in February 2000.
