Ukrainian swimmer sets record, wins silver in World Cup

On Nov. 10, 2009, Ihor Borysyk, the only Ukrainian representative in the third leg of the 2009

FINA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, became the first one to win a medal for our team,

UNIAN reports. He came second in the 200 m breaststroke event, setting a national record of 2:03.93. He was outmatched only by the South African Neil Versfeld with his World Cup record time of 2:02.67.

In the second leg, held on Nov. 6–7 in Moscow, Ukrainians won three medals and set three national records. Daryna Zevina, 15, won gold in the 200 m backstroke event with 2:04.59. She had less success on the 100-meter distance, coming fifth. However, in both cases she set national records for juniors. Borysyk won two silver medals in 100 m and 200 m breaststroke events, setting a national record (2:04.86) in the latter.
