Den’s neighbor relations policy

19 March, 10:35
THE MORNING OF BARMAN VOLODYMYR BEGINS WITH A FRESH ISSUE OF THE NEWSPAPER DEN (ART ECO CAFE, 121D PEREMOHY AVENUE) / Photo by Anna KHABAROVA, The Day

Den’s first office was in a building in Obolon district of Kyiv. When we first came, it was just an unfinished university dormitory, but we improved it, decorating the walls with photographs from our exhibition and planting trees and flowers in the first spring we spent there on the nearby territory that could be described, without exaggeration, as a vacant lot. We were pleased to see our neighbors following our example, and we lived and worked side by side for 15 years there in a hospitable environment, so that our move felt like a separation from close friends.

At the new place, we began to actively explore the surrounding area immediately, holding a tree-planting event in the Stus City Garden nearby, hanging bird feeders around the neighborhood, getting to know the Humanitarian Gymnasium of Oriental Languages’ pupils and staff, and visiting the Sviatoshyn District Museum of History. Watch this space for a report from the museum.

We are happy to announce that the year and a half Den has spent at 121D Peremohy Avenue brought us good friends and wonderful neighbors, including, in particular, the Art-Eco-Cafe and the Atma Yoga Studio. They reciprocated our friendly feelings and now buy this newspaper daily, offering it to their visitors in addition to coffee, or business lunch, or to tonic green tea in between intense yoga sessions... and, importantly, any visitor may take a paper home, for which we are very grateful to our friends.

Adding further to it, we plan to open a book corner for the convenience of our readers and supporters on our office’s first floor soon, saving them an extra effort and time spent looking for a place to buy our publications, including the newspaper, books, and albums. We expect to have intellectual bestsellers of other high-brow Ukrainian publishers on offer in the book corner later on, too.

So, we have got to know well some of our neighbors, and let others make themselves known, too. After all, we are always ready for friendship, partnership and communication with supporters, in accordance with an ancient Ukrainian tradition to live well with one’s neighbors.

With respect and love for our friends and readers,

Editor-in-Chief Larysa IVSHYNA and the entire Den’s community
