Exhibition “Postcards from Maidan” has opened in Poland

The project comes as part of the Majdan Wolnosci program, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the first post-war democratic elections to the Polish parliament.

Let us recall that the Kyiv project “Postcards from Maidan” appeared in March and within two weeks of its existence brought together over 20 artists who visited hospitals and created materials for postcards and works based on protesters’ stories. The project includes works by Anatolii Bielov, Ksenia Hnylytska, Tetiana Kremen, Lesia Khomenko, Sasha Kurmaz, Oleksandr Burlaka, Alevtyna Kakhidze, Anna Zviahintseva, Nikita Kadan, Lada Nakonechna, Marysia Rudska, and other Ukrainian artists. The postcards were distributed in Maidan, and now their print versions are available for free download online at postcardsfrommaidan.org.

“Printed text and hastily made sketches have become an integral part of the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity. We have felt it important to showcase works and projects that express the desire for freedom, combat violence, promote solidarity and peace,” the organizers of the exhibition commented. “The Postcards from Maidan” project saw artists visiting hospitals to talk to people injured during the protests. The initial goal was to attempt to support protesters who had been victimized by the authoritarian government. A parallel goal was to show who participated in the protests and how widely different their views were.

During the conversations or following them, the artists created works in a variety of media, including drawings, objects, photos, and videos.

The exhibition can be visited until June 20.
