Merkel keeps seat on the G8 available for Putin. Why?

20 March, 2014 - 10:44

German Chancellor Angela Merkel refuted late on March 18 French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius’s statement that Russia had been excluded from the G8. As reported by DPA, Merkel added that Germany and the international community’s Russian policy would emphasize “sanctions coupled with dialog.”

Foreign relations expert, senior associate at the European Carnegie Center in Brussels Ulrich Speck told The Day that the EU’s common position was for now a temporary suspension of Russian participation in the G8. Therefore, in his opinion, March 20 EU summit will be a key event.

“We will see whether EU leaders will react to the annexation of the Crimea with severe sanctions. The problem is that the whole of Ukraine and possibly Transnistria, too, are in play now. EU leaders are afraid of losing contact with the Kremlin if they respond with drastic measures. They want to keep the powder dry in case Putin will continue to destabilize Ukraine. That will be the moment to apply significant economic pressure,” the German expert stressed.

It is a great shame that Politicians and the Russian People especially do not swat up and see that Russia has been playing two hands of poker for a very long time, read on It was Stalins collaboration with Hitler and the Nazi (1931-1941)that saw them supply Germany with great support while they starved Ukrainians to death for 2 years of WWII... Germany and the Soviet Union entered an intricate trade pact on February 11, 1940 that was over four times larger than the one the two countries had signed in August 1939.[116] The trade pact helped Germany to surmount a British blockade of Germany.[116] In the first year, Germany received one million tons of cereals, half a million tons of wheat, 900,000 tons of oil, 100,000 tons of cotton, 500,000 tons of phosphates and considerable amounts of other vital raw materials, along with the transit of one million tons of soybeans from Manchuria. These and other supplies were being transported through Soviet and occupied Polish territories, and this allowed Nazi Germany to circumvent the British naval blockade.[116] The Soviets were to receive a naval cruiser, the plans to the battleship Bismarck, heavy naval guns, other naval gear and thirty of Germany's latest warplanes, including the Me-109 fighter, Me-110 fighter and Ju-88 bomber.[116] The Soviets would also receive oil and electric equipment, locomotives, turbines, generators, diesel engines, ships, machine tools and samples of Germany artillery, tanks, explosives, chemical-warfare equipment and other items.[116] The Soviets also helped Germany to avoid British naval blockades by providing a submarine base, Basis Nord, in the northern Soviet Union near Murmansk.[117] This also provided a refueling and maintenance location, and a takeoff point for raids and attacks on shipping

Do you wish to hear one and a half Russian joke? This is the old one: Q1: When was the first Russian election held? A1: The time that God set Eve in front of Adam and said: "Go ahead, choose your wife". And this is the new one: Q2: Comrade Stalin! You sent thousands of wagons of wheat to comrade Hitler (and to his fat generals), to the mortal enemy of the glorious Motherland, the last one even on June 21st 1941. How come, that you did not provide any food to the Ukrainians, your brothers, in the years 1932-1933?
