“The police, as well as security services, combat saboteurs”

Viacheslav Abroskin told us about his service’s fight against looting and illegal arms ownership as well as the latest developments in the tragic story of the Artemivsk-Horlivka shuttle bus. He noted that the general criminal situation in the region had recently improved.

“We are serving in a war-torn area. We confront more than common bandits. The Russian Federation has been sending regular shipments of arms and ammunition to militants of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic. Before the latest ceasefire came into effect, some cities in our region were fired upon almost around the clock. We are, of course, preparing for such situations to happen again. The police have improved since past year,” Abroskin told us. “While the police did not know how to use a gun and were not ready to confront armed criminals then, the situation has since changed. Subversive groups infiltrate our area all the time, but the police, as well as security services, combat saboteurs.”
