Andriy Ivancho: Co-creator of Light

02 November, 00:00
ST. MATHIAS’S CATHEDRAL

An exhibit of works by the Mukachiv-based artist Andriy Ivancho, entitled “Searches through Travel,” has opened at the Griffin Gallery. A painter, Mr. Ivancho creates his works exclusively with the aid of visual art techniques, i.e., color. He “modestly” considers himself the co-creator of the great master, light. Actually, color in Ivancho’s paintings is always a colored light that lives according to its own laws and at its own pace, which the artist must capture and comprehend. This idea is expressed sometimes directly (In the Light of Gothic Stained-Glass Windows, A Gothic Window) and at other times more indirectly (St. Mathias’s Cathedral, Evening Rhythms), but it is always true. One way or another, color and light in Andriy Ivancho’s art are always a powerful, if not omnipotent, instrument capable of expressing the subtlest possible shades of mood, beauty, and harmony (Silver Dusk, Autumnal Reflections).
