On Aug. 26 President Victor Yushchenko of Ukraine signed decrees awarding six people the title of Hero of Ukraine, all of whom also received the Order of the State, UNIAN reports. The distinguished Ukrainian composer, educator, and civic figure Myroslav Skoryk, who heads a department at the Lviv-based Lysenko National Music Academy and holds the title of People’s Artist of Ukraine, was among the six honorees.
President Yushchenko also awarded Ukraine’s highest state decoration that can be conferred on an individual citizen to Professor Viktor Dzendzersky (Dnipropetrovsk), the head of the Institute of Transport Systems and Technologies at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and president of the Vesta International Scientific-Industrial Corporation, for his outstanding contributions to the development of Ukraine’s industrial potential.
Also honored was Volodymyr Khorishok, the head of the Agro-Soiuz Corporation of Dnipropetrovsk oblast, for the implementation of innovative technologies in agricultural production and other achievements.
People’s Artist of Ukraine Nila Kriukova (Kyiv) received the state decoration for her outstanding achievements in the development of Ukrainian national culture.
Yurii Kosiuk, the chairman of the Myronivsky Khliboprodukt Company (Kyiv oblast), was honored for his work to develop agriculture and implement modern high-efficiency technologies as applied to agricultural production and recycling.
Ivan Huly, the director-general of Promin, a private agricultural leasing company based in Kharkiv oblast, was honored for his contribution to the development of the agro-industrial complex and his many years of dedicated work.
