Dancing the rumba in Truskavets

The international sport dance competition “Ukraine Titles ‘05” was held recently in the resort town of Truskavets. This traditional competition, organized by the Ukrainian Dance Council, features Ukraine’s top dancers. The qualifying round to select the Ukrainian dancers who will be competing in the European championships took place this year in Truskavets. Together with Ukrainian experts, the jury included distinguished specialists from Germany, Russia, the US, and Scotland. The main competition judge, Stuart Saunders, a former celebrated dancer and the vice-president of the World Dance and Dance Sport Council, was among the invited guests. The extravagant Scot held a workshop seminar for Ukrainian sport dancers in Truskavets.

Over 120 dancing pairs took part in the competition in the beginners, juvenile, junior, youth, and adult groups. In the Latin American program Ukrainian professionals vied to qualify for the European championships. Mykhailo Bilopukhov and Olena Shvets (Kaleidoskop Club, Kyiv) placed first, followed by Valeriy Sasin and Tetiana Sushynska (Top Dance Club, Kharkiv) in second place, while another Kyiv pair, Oleksiy Tyshchenko and Alisa Polish chuk (Amateur Sport Dance), won the bronze medal. Dmytro Yarosh and Anna Zahrebena (Leader Club, Lviv Institute of Physical Education) were close behind them.
