“Looking for a grain of personality”

Last week many Kyivites and guests of the capital came to the opening of the exposition of works by People’s Artist of Ukraine Mykhailo HUIDA and his students, “In single space.”

“We are having a huge art event today,” the head of the National Union of Artists Volodymyr CHEPELYK emphasized. “I have known Huida for a long time. He is an outstanding artist, a brilliant master of landscape and portrait, and he is also a wonderful teacher. Mykhailo has regular students not only in Ukraine, but also in China. In such a way he makes a contribution in the friendly relations between Ukraine and China. This is a large-scale unique exhibition. I can’t recall any exposition like Mykhailo’s within these walls. Next year the National Union of Artists of Ukraine is nominating Mykhailo Huida for Shevchenko Prize, and I     think with such work he shows that he indeed deserves this.”

“It has taken us a long time to prepare the exhibit,” artist Mykhailo HUIDA told The Day, “For the most part, the exhibit presents diploma and bachelor degree art works by my students and paintings by my assistants, wonderful artists.”

Teaching the subtleties of the profession to his students, Mykhailo Huida emphasizes that along with obtaining academic knowledge they should also find their own secrets of artistic ways of depicting the reality.

“Our pedagogical team never imposes its topics or opinions on the students. They always execute their own plots and depict what they feel,” Mykhalo Huida added, “Some of them are members of the Union of Artists; works of many of them have been exhibited abroad. Hopefully, they will bring the shining of our art into the faraway worlds.”

“Huida became a teacher long ago, when he was still a student,” says Andrii CHEBYKIN, a member of the National Union of Artists. “His peers, colleagues, and friends understood that he is a great artist, we all saw this then, and of course, we can see this now. This is a wonderful person who has talent and who helps others find theirs through artistic studio. I am sure that with time his students will free themselves from Huida’s methods and become independent brilliant artists.”

Young artists, when they presented their works, shared their emotions and impressions with pleasure. Yaryna SAIENKO, an author of the works Seasons and Morning, this autumn was a co-organizer of the charity soiree “To Live” which was raising funds for the ATO. This time Yaryna is a participant of the exhibit. “It can be said that this is a kind of retrospective, because here you can see how differently the teacher reveals every one of his students. Teachers often try to teach their students to paint only the way they can do, but Huida looks for grain and grows our personalities, he encourages us to be free, to work on ourselves, and to constantly seek perfection,” Yaryna commented.

“Any country should be proud of such a maestro,” notes Mykhailo’s friend, People’s Artist of Ukraine, Vasyl HURIN, “Soon Mykhailo will turn 60. In my opinion, the fact that so many people came to congratulate him on the opening of the exhibit is the best present for him.”
