An unusual exhibition marathon dedicated to the history of the Ukrainian postage stamp has started in Vinnytsia. The exhibition “Towards the 100th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Postage Stamp” was launched on June 12 at the regional local history museum. However, the marathon, sponsored by Vinnytsia regional office of Ukrposhta, regional branch of the Association of Philatelists of Ukraine, and the city’s society of collectors, actually began back in April 2014. At that time, the organizers cancelled a stamp with a special postmark and signed a memorial club envelope in the village of Voronovytsia, a former estate of the Grocholski-Mozhaisky family, now housing a museum of the history of aviation and space exploration in Ukraine.
The traveling exhibition includes 10 parts covering various topics including the timeline of the Ukrainian stamp, fauna and flora of Vinnytsia region and Ukraine, sports, space exploration, folk festivals and traditions, and modern technology, as every postage stamp is interesting and unique.
In fact, the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian stamp will not arrive until 2018. However, professionals and amateurs of philately decided to start a series of educational exhibitions in advance, so as to generate interest in this topic, especially among children and teenagers. The organizers hope that this rare exhibition will visit most localities of Vinnytsia region, introducing thousands of its residents to the Ukrainian stamp.
